V is for Vortex (In A Paranormal Supernatural Kind Of Way)

Orbs. I've Seen These Quite A Few Times
Vortex: In a paranormal or supernatural sense, a vortex is anomaly that appears in photographs. They can be orbs or shadows or the shape of humans.
Some people interpret these background images as ghosts, angels and demons, aliens, beings from another dimension, or a portal to another dimension.
Weird Ectoey Plasmaey Things

I’ve seen, or at least I think I’ve seen, all of these in real life. Glimpses of lights and orbs and even angels in the flesh. On top of that, the Bible says in the book of Hebrews to be nice to strangers because we can be talking to angels and not even realize it.

First Pic from Mars Voyager
During my life I’ve had that very strong feeling deep down in my inner self after meeting a stranger and thinking by golly by gum that was an angel. I wish I would have been a whole lot nicer to them.

Question: Have you ever taken or seen a photograph were there are strange happenings in the background that probably should not be there?

  1. I haven't taken a picture with things in the background that shouldn't be there, but I do think I saw an angel one time. Years ago brother's motorcycle broke down. I went down to where he was to see if I could give him and his girlfriend a ride home. Someone out of the crowd came and offered to fix his bike; a simple fix and it worked to get them home and then for a long time; the person disappeared really before we could thank them.

  2. Hi Stephen - interesting to read about your 'feelings' of someone being there and that vortex experience ... I certainly haven't experienced any of those sorts of things that I've been aware of .. but I'll be kinder to all strangers in future. Interesting V post .. cheers Hilary

  3. It must be interesting yet I would be frightened of a vortex experience.
    Have a good week-end.

  4. I love that connection you get with strangers sometimes, my last one was a lovely lady on a train... about 30 years my senior. We had an incredible chat on our journey sharing thoughts and feelings and lots of deep talk, not small talk, topics.

I left her thinking I really hope I'm that awesome in 30 years time!

  5. I've never spotted orbs and such in my photographs, but then again, I'm not much of a picture-taker, LOL.

  6. I have taken photos in a 'haunted' places on a ghost tour hoping to get a shot of some orbs, but no luck. I did get photos of a haunted covered bridge that once I loaded online, I saw a face in several of the photos. I do believe I have had contact with an angel once when I was struggling with something that was very upsetting and I saw a light as I was 1/2 asleep and I called him by name. The next day, I found 3 white feathers which I carry around with me all the time. -http://50andfabulousblog.blogspot.com

    1. judi, I have heard of people having an experience with feathers. At the time I inwardly mocked the notion, until it happened to me and a white feather floated down right in front of me as I was writing. There is no logical explanation whatsoever as to how this could have happen.

  8. The word vortex conjures up fearful images in my mind - as in disappearing into one.

  9. I've heard of such pictures, but I didn't know the word vortex was associated with them. No mysterious photos on my end. Do digital photos have a better or worse chance of catching a vortex compared to older kinds of cameras?

    2. Sure. A couple times friends have showed me what they captrured with cell phones. Little bright orbs.

  10. I didn't know those orbs in pictures were also called vortexes. I always thought they were spirits...or with some, tricks of light.

  12. Oh I love this post! I love the thought of some of the people we meet being angels!

  13. I never take chances, and it's just easier to be nice than not to be. Good advice.

  14. I have written about this on occasion and had one post about the physical vortex surrounding Sedona, AZ where my brand new watch stopped. It's hard to know whether we're surrounded by angels or demons. Good post Stephen.

  15. I went on a ghost hunt with a local ghost-hunting group and we went to a bar and pool-hall that is known to be haunted. Although I didn't encounter anything that I could definitely say was ghostly, I did get several pictures with orbs in them. So that was kinda cool. I'd like to do more of the ghost hunts...but I'd like to be assured that I wouldn't have to worry about one attaching itself to me and me bringing it home!
When I think of vortex, the first place that comes to mind is Sedona: I think I'll be getting out there to check it out for myself sometime next Spring, if all goes according to plan...
I really am enjoying your theme Stephen.

  16. I had a photo like that and realised it was actually my flash light reflecting.

  17. I am, sadly, so solidly grounded in the here and now... I have an uncle who actually sees ghosts--like well defined. He says they always seem surprised to be seen. He isn't at all bothered by it--they aren't malevolent--just there.

    1. Hart, I truly believe we are all born with unique gifts. And part of this gifting allows us to see and hear glimpses into dimensions that exist above and beyond our five senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching.

  18. I certainly believe in angels and demons. To say I've seen one, I can't say that for sure. However, I have felt the presence of both good and evil spirits throughout my life. Of course, there is not doubt I have come face to face with earthly angels. Some have been strangers (and maybe they aren't from this world), but most of the angels are people I know who have big hearts. A vortex is also what tornado produces. We had this little gadget in our homeschool years where you connected it to two large soda bottles, fill one bottle with water, make a swirling motion and then turn it upside down as the while created a vortex as it funneled into the lower bottle. Very cool!

  19. I love Marvin-hilarious! My sister took a picture at night outside her home since it was snowing and it looked so pretty. When she developed the picture, there were orbs. Her neighbour did the same thing and had this white mass and orbs as well. I think Angels do exist in many forms

  20. My friends house was a bit haunted by a lady. We saw her outline in a fog-like mist on a photo they took. Very interesting indeed.

  21. I've taken more than one picture that had a swirling (like a stretched phone cord) whatever go through my pictures. Different parts of the house and different people and different light. One was in the middle of the day time and there was no lights on. One had it going through the kitchen and turning into the living room. Another had my pregnant sister-in-law and it raced up one side if the pic. Another was of a dog and it flew diagonally over the dog's image.

    1. Maybe you have a ghost camera. Just kidding. Ghost cameras capture things that we cannot see with our eyes and make for great short stories like Ghost Camera.

  22. I have seen what you are describing, sensed some one around me, felt a touch on my shoulder. I would rather not see this, but it does not wish to be invisible.

    1. Susan, I have felt a tug on the bottom of my shirt. To this day I'm not sure if this was from a good source or a malevolent one.

  24. I have not, but my sister-in-law went to the Stanley Hotel (the one The Shining is based on), and she got back with some interesting pictures on her camera. Some she does not remember taking.

  25. I've never seen anything in a picture that couldn't be explained by reflections or leaky doors where the film was. I have seen people I wanted to help in some way, like stranded on the side of the road, but did nothing because if I survived it hubby would kill me if and when he found out. And because of that verse, I wonder if I missed meeting an angel. I do want to point out that hubby has stopped and helped many, many people in his lifetime. But then, he's his badass self and figures he can take care of himself. And I'm sure that he has seemed like an angel, albeit rough around the edges, too many he has helped.

  26. I had some orbs on my pictures. I take them as a combination of light and dust in the air.

  27. The year my grandson was born, we took a family picture that looked great on the digital, but then when we printed it, it was full of those orbs. So annoying. Of the more than 30 pictures taken that day, it was the only one like that.

  28. I haven't taken any pictures that have orbs or mists in them. The closet was when in Vicksburg, MS at the Civil War museum, I snapped two pictures and you can see a dark figure in one. No idea if it's just a trick of the eye or not, but it's my unexplained photo. =)

  29. I've taken photos ( mostly back when we had photos developed ) that had mysterious lights, shapes, orbs in the background that I was convinced must be something angelic or beyond our realm , but everyone tried hard to convince me that it was just the light playing tricks with the camera. It's funny you should write about the bible telling us to be nice to strangers because we never know when we might be speaking to an angel. I've had some unusual experiences with strangers, including a homeless person asking for money, that left me with an unusually comforting and peaceful feeling in my heart. I've wondered if I may have met an angel in the flesh but I don't often tell people about it becuse they act like I am nuts.

    1. Melissa, I think this happens more than people realize. Who knows how an angel might appear. God is good to let us know after the fact so we can learn and grow from it.

  30. I'd be so freaked out if I saw strange light or figures in a picture, though I love stories about that happening in haunted places. I've heard that happens a lot by Rudolph Valentino's crypt, and I'll just have to see if I'm one of the lucky ones when I finally go there to pay my respects.

  31. I've never taken a photo where there was something that shouldn't be there. But I completely believe in spirits and wouldn't be surprised if some of those things were true. However, I think most of the picture anomalies are probably just nothing.

  33. Well, I've never looked too closely at my photos, except for the immediate subject(s), as I only take family snaps on the go. I don't think I want to look really, because I would probably over-think everything and I do enough of that anyway!

  35. I've never known that's what those lights were in photos. I've taken photos with those kinds of effects, but I think they were explainable. I do think I've encountered angels--or at least people that gave me that sense.

  39. I've never taken odd photos that can't be explained by my complete incompetence with a camera :) I think some of the phenomena seen in such photos are very interesting and others are just artefacts introduced by the camera.
