People flock into cities mainly to earn living. Like the case in the Philippines, there are a lot of empty areas in provinces when Manila is condensed! I believe efforts are on the way, on a brighter side, this problem has been fuel for resourcefulness and creativity.Mariahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00742777265021634232noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1824539601044491117.post-2894653527398617302014-04-22T10:17:22.755-07:002014-04-22T10:17:22.755-07:00It's kind of strange to thank of land being bu...It's kind of strange to thank of land being built, but if you think about it, all land was built. I personally think building man made islands is fine, if all the studies before hand show it won't be detrimental to the area being used. The feat of making man made islands is mind boggling and I bet it makes a civil engineer just want to jump on that boat to see what they could create!Lisahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06658507579160418855noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1824539601044491117.post-27402817316110869482014-04-21T09:03:23.956-07:002014-04-21T09:03:23.956-07:00I knew Japan had been dumping stuff into the ocean...I knew Japan had been dumping stuff into the ocean, enlarging their land. When home are build on former landfills, they have a tendency to settle causing walls and foundations to crack. I know of a whole subdivision near where I live that's having this problem. I can't help but think the same would be possible on a man-made island. Then there is the issue of storms and storm surges. Look at what happend with Hurricane Sandy. And with strong possibility of rising ocean levels, what will prevent these islands from being flooded?Bish Denhamhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13359927719391990534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1824539601044491117.post-73905284144910141692014-04-21T04:03:39.567-07:002014-04-21T04:03:39.567-07:00Man-made islands--wow! I worry about the populations and where they all will live - yet many have two or three homes, and many are hotels and priced way too high ... we are looking at building homes on floating platforms that can rise with the sea level ... the Dutch have started doing that - we cannot protect ourselves from storms, or major sea level rises too easily ...

Man will need to adjust somehow .. it is a challenging situation to put it mildly ... especially as our land is what sustains us and we don't need it all built over and contaminated as we go ...

It is an interesting subject ... and great you've raised it here .. cheers HilaryHilary Melton-Butcherhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17596532480645510678noreply@blogger.com
