Dreams: E is for Epic Dreams and IWSG

Epic Dreams also known as Great Dreams, Cosmic Dreams or Numinous Dreams. You know it if and when you have it. You wake up with a WOW! factor rarely experienced in life. An epic dream can produce such positive state that it can literally change your life! And you remember them in great detail well after you dream them. Still, it’s a good idea to write epic dreams down in the greatest of detail. You know, just in case an epic door in life opens up to you.

IWSG I’ve had my very first review from a reader who used Kindle Voice Mode. The review is mixed and I’m just happy someone took the time to read it and post a review. But this is new territory and now I'm narrowing down a search to have someone(s) professionally put together audio books for my novels.

Honorable Mention Earthquakes, Eating and Eyes.

Question Have you had an epic dream? Has anyone reviewed your book as an audio version?

  1. I've had some powerful, vivid dreams in my life, but none that would qualify as epic. Epic or not, those dreams have stayed with me throughout my life. I'm still working on my first book ~ no thought of an audio version yet. Good luck with your book, Stephen.

  2. I remember having dreams that left me felling brilliant, but I don't remember what they were any more. Sometimes dreams seem epic when you're having them, but not so great in the light of day, but still leave you with a wonderful feeling :)

  3. I love your theme. I love my dreams. I even force myself to go back to sleep, if I accidentally wake up. Weird I know. But hey, we all want to know how it ends. I have never kept a dream journal, but I do think about it and try to experience it again...

    1. Seena, it's kinda rare but really cool when you wake up from a dream then fall back asleep and pick up where you left off.

  4. Just finished reading a biographical novel based on the life of Robert Louis Stevenson and he recommended thinking about your chosen topic before bed as he did. Then he would have these dreams that fleshed out his entire story. Talk about Epic Dreams! Really enjoyed your post. I'm not at all familiar with the kindle voice mode ... always something new to learn. (the book is: Under the Wide and Starry Sky by Nancy Horan)

    1. Natalie, I've neglected it so far but now I know I need to take time and make sure it's done right and not by a computer app with robotic voices.

  6. I've never had my books recorded. For cost, I'm unsure I'd sell enough to make my investment back. Maybe if I ever become 'popular' :) Congrats on your review. They can be scary things, but as long as it's clear they read it all and have reasons for positive and negative comments, I'm cool with them. I try to learn from every one.

  7. Well, never had an epic dream. My dreams then to be quite ordinary ;-)

Receiving a review is always a thrilling experience... even when it isn't fantastic. Good luck with the audiobooks.

  9. I have had a number of epic dreams--I generally write my dreams in a journal but haven't had any published (I've mentioned a few in my blog)

  10. Would love to have an epic dream! Mine are so boring.

And audio--I use ACX. You can either pay a narrator there, offer a royalty share deal there (that's what I do), or narrate yourself there. Fairly easy to use: http://www.acx.com/help/authors/200484540?utm_medium=author&utm_campaign=hiwtable

  11. All Caught up with the posts. Daydreams are the best - uncomplicated and fun and often do not need any interpreting at all, at least mine don't. Don't think I have had an Epic dream, I shall be on the lookout from now on..don't want to miss it if it turns up one of these days, that would be an epic Fail :)

  12. no epic dreams. The ones I remember have my mother in them and she's been gone for 20 years. She does usually give some advice so I try to keep it in my brain, but it can be jarring too. No audio book for me (yet) - I'd like it read by someone awesome like Emma Thompson. One can have an Epic dream....

  13. I have them fairly often. Must be my storyteller's brain :) I do write them down, in case one wants to turn into a story idea...

  15. I am familiar with the term numinous dreams but never heard of epic dreams. However, I remember having a particularly "epic" one that included humpback whales singing to me.

  16. One of my novels was the result of a dream. Dreams are important. Took me a while to figure that out. Epic dreams, not a term I'm familiar with. Guess I better do some research. This sounds interesting. Thanks for your support, Stephen. You always take time visit my blog. Appreciate that more than words can say.

    1. Joylene, cool a dream was the source of inspiration for a book. I would think many a great work of fiction started this way.

  23. Sometimes I have dreams that are really "visits" from my grandparents, who have passed. I always know the difference because they just feel different...and usually my grandparents don't speak in visit dreams...they are just there :)

    1. I have a post coming up on dialogue in dreams. It's very simple yet enlightening to say the least.

  24. I've been having lots of dreams recently, and it seems like I've been grinding my teeth while I'm asleep. I don't know which is causing the other, but I wish I'd stop because it's giving me terrible toothache.

  25. Epic dreams, can honestly say I've never labeled a dream as epic. Scary, sorrowful, frightening beyond the pale, but not epic. I'm missing something.
Have never had an audio review, but would love to have my books done in audio.

  28. Maybe someday i'll have an epic dream. It would have to be some kind of special for me to remember it, though!

  29. Interesting subject :-) I don't know about epic dreams, but I've had ones that have greatly impacted me--especially about loved ones that have passed on. Most dreams we don't remember, but these have staying power...

  31. I use to have epic dreams all the time when I was younger. Not so much now. I could still remember them. One of them I was partnered up with Michael Jackson to break into this lab to retrieve a cure to save mankind. But to get to it, we had to travel through the NYC underground subways. And avoid detection and attack from these spiky, balled objects the color of pepto bismol.

  33. Hi, Stephen,

I had a dream that inspired me to write my second novel. Not sure I'd qualify it as epic because I don't remember all the details. All I can remember is that there was a blinded gardener... I don't see him in the dream, I just remember dreaming about him.

Interesting thought though. I think I'd like to experience a dream at that level...

  34. I haven't had an epic dream. Bummer!
Congrats on the review. Even if it's not glowing, getting them can be hard so it's nice to celebrate getting one. I've toyed with the idea of audio, but haven't really looked into it.

  35. I believe I have had epic dreams. One was where I was in a beautiful room that belonged to Da Vinci. His gothic style windows were portals to different time periods in history. I took 3 different adventures and had wonderful fun in each. It felt glorious and it felt long.
